The Retreat
Around the time of the second world war when everything seemed unstable and civilians' lives were in danger, the regional subcultural groupings in Europe such as the mods, bikers, punks and goths, came to light for the first time. In the time of such a catastrophe, society's norms started to get standardized. This led to the phenomenon of a constant identity crisis in the lives of the various subcultural groupings. These groupings found their identities and peace in their way of living. They used dressing and clothing as a tool to break the stereotypes set by the mediocre society. They found a way to define themselves as bold and rebellious. They found breakthroughs in the sense of forming a group Identity, in which they found retreat. The six-piece garment capsule titled as 'The Retreat', has derived its inspiration from the impact of this phenomenon. It led to the wider theme of ‘Street Style’ . It displays mood and the use of specific colour scheme, unity and an exploration in form and fabric.
