The Green Wall

Bangalore has always been a city that has welcomed plants and trees of all forms. It is nationally known as the ‘garden city’ of the country. The oldest garden of Bangalore dates back to 1760, The Lalbagh Botanical Garden. Creating Gardens in the pre-colonial times was a way to display the very culture and royalty of a kingdom. Today, it is a way of life for almost all Bangaloreans. Rapid urbanisation along with a constant influx of people from outside of Bangalore has led to the overcrowding of the city. This has further led to people moving into apartments in the course of their fast lives. In this case, apartments do not allow people to have their individual gardens. Thus, people usually end up buying plants from nurseries demonstrating the verticalization of gardens. The inspiration to create a series of patterned surfaces based on the arrangement of plants in a nursery falls along these lines. In this case, nature is nurtured. To some it is cathartic and to some it just happens to be a practice that makes them feel responsible. These patterned surfaces can be applied to the making of any products ranging from accessories to apparel.
